In the controller, you need to add the login object as an attribute of the model:

model.addAttribute("login", new Login());

Like this:

@RequestMapping(value = "/", method = RequestMethod.GET) 
public String displayLogin(Model model) { 
    model.addAttribute("login", new Login()); 
    return "login"; 
}
